It is an excellent software manual, of the type that companies provided with their software in the "good ole days". I have to differ from the pack here a little.I think this book does an excellent job of what it does. And I would give it five stars if it were titled "How to Run Outlook 2007 BCM". But there is not much in here that a reasonably computer-literate person would not get with a little playing around on their own (although they do point out some things that are in unexpected places or hard to find in the interface).I was looking for a book that was more about contact management strategies and procedures for a user of Outlook BCM, not a software manual. There is none to speak of in this book.
The book helped to take a lot of the confusion out of getting me organized to think in a more logical manner in dealing with customer information. Although I bought an Outlook book, Business Contact Manager is a separate version of Outlook. It is included on Microsoft Office for Small Business or as a separate product purchased with Outlook. The book is easy reading and well organized. I used what I learned to better organize and plan customer contacts and communication history and use it often as a reference book.
I bought this book to become a little more familiar with Business Contact Manager. I had worked with an older version somewhat and found myself in the position of helping a client set up their BCM Contact database. Being familiar with Outlook advanced features and not considering myself a newbie but rather an intermediate-advanced user, I found this book informative without being too heavy. Just right for what I was looking for which was the ability to customize BCM a little.
I also wanted to be able to find it easily, sort and create specific customized reports. I use Outlook 2007 in my business. As a sole proprietor, data accumulates and I wanted a comprehensive program to store various bits of info for future reference. This book gives me concise instructions that I refer back to regularly in order to accomplish these tasks and and has truly assisted me in becoming more competent with Business Contacts 2007. Well Done.
This book is well written and layed out. The author bridges this gap by keeping things very simple for the novice but offering more advanced insights to the power users. It follows an easy to follow format that allows the reader to view screenshots with instruction, allowing interactive use of the book if you have the software installed. Business Contact Manager can be a little overwhelming for novices or those new to outlook. This is a great reference book to have for BCM until you become proficient with daily use. Highly recommend.
